What do we do after experiencing sexual assault?

If you have been sexually assaulted :

Don’t hesitate to contact us directly at  819-563-9999 or at our toll free number 1 877-563-0793.

If the assault is recent (less then 5 days), you can go to the CHUS to make sure you don’t have physical injuries, STI/STD, etc. Evidence collection is also an option if you are thinking of reporting the assault to the police. If the assault happened more than 6 days ago, you can directly go to the planning clinic where they will do the necessary tests to ensure your safety and health.

You can also go to the police station to get help.

***If you live in Estrie and want to go to the CHUS, the planning clinic or the police station, an intervener from the CALACS can accompany you through that process if you want.***

If a person you know has been sexually assaulted :

It’s important that you listen to the person and believe what she is saying. It’s rare that someone will invent an assault.

Give her time, don’t rush her. Sometimes, your presence itself is very important to make the person feel safe.

Don’t ask too many questions regarding the aggression. She can open up if she wishes, but it’s not necessary for you to know the details. On the other side, if you aren’t comfortable with what the person is disclosing, tell her so and refer her to the CALACS Agression Estrie for further support. You can also get some help if you want it (with our meetings of support to the relatives).

It’s the choice of each person to contact the CALACS or to get some help with someone else that she trusts.
