CALACS Agression Estrie is leading a project concerning sexual exploitation in Eastern Township. It consists of a portrait of this problem in Sherbrooke, but also in the other regional county municipalities (RCMs). It is essential for community workers to become aware of how this industry is organized in our region to better engage with girls and women. There is no portrait of the sex industry in the Eastearn Township and even less information about the organization of this exploitation among young people.
Since sexual exploitation is still a taboo subject, many believe that this phenomenon only exists in large urban centers. CALACS Agression Estrie’s portrait will be an awareness tool for the population and will aim to break the popular belief that prostitution does not exist in our region. The team hopes that this portrait will equip the workers so that the direct prevention with the young people is carried out and that they can be able to answer the needs of the victims.
The project has a second component that aims to bring together community partners as well as girls and women affected by the problem. Thus, a prevention program adapted to our regional reality will be developed. This prevention program will affect the general population, workers and young women (25 years old and under) at risk.
Since the portrait is only in french, here’s some important statistics and informations that we think you should know about:
